Why Gocek?
Three practical reasons. The gulf is closed to open sea swell, so the water stays calm and first-timers relax quickly. The Twelve Islands sit so close together that passages between anchorages rarely exceed half an hour, which means the holiday happens in the bays, not underway. And Dalaman Airport is only 22 km away, about 25 minutes from plane to marina.
The bays themselves carry the holiday: the shallow channels of Yassica Islands, the fish fresco and rock tombs at Bedri Rahmi Bay, the submerged ruins of Cleopatra's Bath, pine-shaded Sarsala, the hidden inner pool of Gobun, the old stone buildings of Tersane Island and the sunsets of Aga Limani.
A Day on Board
Mornings start with a swim in an empty bay, followed by a long breakfast on deck. Mid-morning the anchor comes up for a short passage, usually 30-45 minutes, to the day's first stop: swimming, snorkelling, paddleboarding. Lunch is eaten at anchor in the shade, and the early afternoon belongs to books and naps. A second bay follows, then around six the captain picks the night's anchorage. Dinner comes with the sunset, on board or at a waterside restaurant, and the evening ends under a sky with no city lights. None of it is fixed; if you love a bay, you stay longer.
How Many Nights?
A day charter is the trailer version: three bays and home by sunset, ideal for testing the idea. A 3-4 night programme loops the inner gulf, anchoring at Gobun or Sarsala, exploring Tersane and Aga Limani, returning past Yassica. Food, Families and Timing
On crewed gulets a cook prepares three fresh meals a day around your preferences, with shopping done on your behalf; on bareboats you provision yourself, and Gocek's markets are used to delivering to the dock. Waterside restaurants in several bays make a lovely change for dinner, and most guests mix all three.
Families find Gocek unusually easy: calm, shallow bays, short passages and crews accustomed to children. Toys like paddleboards and snorkel sets fill the days, and screen-time arguments tend to dissolve by day three.
The season runs from May to late October. June and September balance warm sea with quieter bays; July and August are the hottest and busiest months and reward early booking; May and October offer calm anchorages and gentler prices.
Budget and Booking
Prices are per boat, not per person: captained day boats run 300-700 €, sailing yachts 300-500 € per day, gulets 800-2,000 € per day, motor yachts 1,000-2,200 €, catamarans 550-4,300 €, and weekly crewed gulets start around 4,000 €. On captained gulet and motor yacht charters, fuel for the standard route is usually included; food, marina nights and crew tips are planned separately.
